The Playing Fields – Sunday 18th June from 2pm

A Father’s Day Treat in aid of Compassion’s community project, supporting Ngowa (St Nicholas Church’s sponsored child).

Please bring a picnic – cakes and hot drinks will be available in the clubhouse where the bar will also be open from 2.30pm.

Prizes will be awarded for the first to cross the line and the best fancy dress in two separate categories:

  • Full sized barrow pushed by an adult, carrying a child over 5
  • Barrow of any size pushed by a child under 5, carrying a soft toy

Race Numbers can be bought in advance from Jo Goodson or Sonia Storey at church every Sunday, at school pick-up at 3.15pm or from the bus stop at 3.50pm.  £5 per barrow team.

And now for the official rules:

  1. Barrow occupants must wear a bike helmet and remain within the barrow for the duration of the race.  If a barrow loses its occupant the whole team will be disqualified.
  2. Barrows must stay within the marked 500m course at all times.
  3. Participants must adhere to instructions from fluorescent jacket-wearing marshalls at all times.
  4. Fancy dress must extend to the barrow occupant, pusher and barrow itself.
  5. Barrow occupants must be over the age of 5 years and able to hold on to the edges of the barrow for the entire race.
  6. There is no upper age limit for barrow occupants but race organisers may question the sanity of anyone pushing someone heavier than themselves.
  7. Barrow pushers must be aged over 12 years.
  8. Barrow pushers are allowed to borrow children from outside their family for the event but please get permission from the child’s parents before attending the race.
  9. Strictly no barrow bashing during the race.
  10. Strictly no barrow sabotage before or during the race.
  11. Event organisers reserve the right to stage heats should there be a large volume of entrants.
  12. Good sportsmanship should be displayed by all participants at all times.
  13. And finally... all participants take part at their own risk and the event organisers may not be held responsible for any injuries resulting from the barrow racing event.  Trips to hospital will result in disqualification!
